rv-pro.com September 2018 • RV PRO • 91 percent. Production line capability has increased 60 percent during the same time. Jayco also has increased production at its Idaho facility, man- ufacturing Rocky Mountain Edition Jayco trailers. "The most asked question I get after all this time is: 'What would (founder) Lloyd (Bontrager) think?' or 'Did your dad ever dream it would get to be this size or what it has become?'" CEO Wilbur Bontrager said. "Frankly, I've been asking the same ques- tion of myself. The answer is: 'no, no and no'. When you combine great products, great employees and dealers all with common goals and values building to the same mission of generations of fun, you get to 50 years almost before you know it." In bringing all of the new workers into the industry, Jayco also created the Jayco University program to teach new employees the history of the company and its values. Derald and Wilbur Bontrager tell the employees the history of the company to help them understand where they all came from. "We want to make sure when we bring people in, they under- stand what the core values are of the company and then we can start teaching them about the RV business," Thompson said. But equally critical to Jayco's mission – and even more in light of the ramped up production – are measures the manufacturer has taken to ensure product quality. An RV PRO survey taken earlier this year showed that throughout the industry, product quality was the biggest con- cern. Jayco has heard the same thing from its dealer advisory committee and has taken steps to improve quality. In June, the company shut down all of its towable product lines to make changes to improve what was coming off the lines. "We walked out and did not like what we saw," Thompson said. "None of us did. We went through and inspected hundreds of units offline and pulled them back. We went through every piece. We set new standards for what our expectations are. We got a lot of calls from dealers saying after we did that, they saw a huge improvement in quality being delivered." Jeff Fisher (center) of B&R Camper Sales in Theodore, Ala., talks about the details of a model with a Jayco representative. Jayco has grown overall by 88 percent over the past five years.
