20 n LER 2018 T he capabilities of laser engraving equipment span a wide range of uses. From engraving jewelry and awards to cutting/fabricating large murals and signage, laser engravers are versatile pieces of equipment that many producers in the graphics industry utilize. This annual survey takes a look at the various aspects of the laser engraving market, targeting business practices, sales numbers, and the current challenges and technology. With these results, it is our hope that you can better build and expand your laser engraving business and increase profits. SURVEY METHODOLOGY This survey was conducted in June 2018 via electronic mail through SurveyMonkey.com and complied with all CAN SPAM act laws and the NBM privacy policy (http://www.nbm. com/privacy-statement). Respondents were selected from the A&E and Sign & Digital Graphics subscriber databases, and all survey recipients were provided the same version of the survey. These businesses are primarily involved in awards, tro- phies, customization, personalization, commercial and archi- tectural signage, and outdoor advertising. For the purposes of this survey, laser engraving businesses are defined as those shops and individuals that offer personalized and/or customized laser engraved products or services. A total of 380 responses were received and no less than 164 responses were received on any one question. Some survey totals equal more than 100 percent because readers check all of the categories that apply. All statistics and state- ments found in this report are based upon survey findings except where noted.
