26 THE SHOP JANUARY 2019 us a challenge, the aftermarket will usually come through with flying colors. At the 2018 SEMA Show, you no doubt saw this exact thing with all the manufac- turers racing to meet the demand for new JL accessories. The fortunate thing was that Jeep, in my opinion, did a lot of smart things with the new model that increased its desirability, even among owners cur- rently happy with their JKs. For instance, the JK was a plain Jane when it came to technology on the inside. Many electronic features that consumers are starting to expect are now available, if not standard, in the new JL, making the vehicle attractive to consumers looking for both style and new tech. Jeep also did a good job of freshening up the exterior without totally designing a new look. Once again, the Wrangler is a customization darling. When they first hit the streets a little over a year ago, it was hard to find a lot of products for the new JLs. In fact, I had one customer who wanted us to build a $10,00 package, and the challenge was finding enough parts to add on to even get to Jeep It's an Updated Thing Our project with Performance CJD West included accessories from Omix-ADA/Rugged Ridge, which is part of the Truck Hero family. The goal was to take a 2019 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JL Sahara and turn it from a highly liked vehicle into a coveted, can't-live-without show-stopper. The goal was to increase visibility and desirability, while keeping the upgrade costs in check. We started with a lift, 20-inch wheels and 35-inch tires, then looked to many of the lit- tle add-ons that Jeep lovers crave, including: a front bumper with winch, hood latches, interior upgrades and a cool third brake light integrated into the spare tire carrier.
