JANUARY 2019 THE SHOP 37 rations, allowing a greater number of audio channels to be created and neatly housed beneath a single CP1 cover plate. ACM Series amps can be installed with controls oriented up or down, and reversible cover plates allow flexible mounting options when paired with AudioControl DM series DSP processors or when using multiple ACM Series amplifiers in confined spaces. Also at SEMA, AudioControl showed its new DM-RTA, which combines the func- tionality of an oscilloscope, voltage meter, SEMA's Best New Products – Mobile Electronics Sometimes you just don't want to cut through that firewall in the Jeep to run wires—especially if the vehicle might see deep-water duty. The winner of the Mobile Electronics category at the 2018 SEMA Show was the Trigger 4 Plus from Advanced Accessory Concepts. The unit is a switchbox operated by its own wireless controller or an app via Bluetooth for controlling vehicle lighting and other accessories. It also adds functions such as a remote control for activating installed accessories from outside the vehicle, dimming/flashing functions for lighting, and fused cir- cuits with LED indicators to notify of blown fuses. A runner-up was the Kicker Key 180.4 mini amplifier with built-in DSP. This little 45-watt-by-4 amplifier is usually way more powerful than puny factory amplifiers built into the OEM head unit. But in addition to cranking up the power, the amplifier also ramps up the sound quality, and comes with a microphone. After the amp is installed, the unit self-tunes itself—listening through the speakers and processing the sound with a 40-band EQ and time alignment. After the tuning is complete, you can A/B the results of factory-to-EQ and time-align and compare the typically mind-blowing difference. The other runner up in Mobile Elec- tronics was the Daystar GMRS Radio Kit for JK Wranglers. This hot new category allows for hardcore off-roaders to com- municate with each other on the trails where cell phone reception is typically non-existent. AAC's Trigger 4 Plus was named the top mobile electronics product at the 2018 SEMA Show.
