Roland S-Ink or Shrink ink set – flexible ECO-UV S ink (expands up to 220 percent), these can be used with PET bottles and plastic cups as well as thermoformed plastic that is com- monly used for items ranging from food service trays to auto parts pack- aging and consumer electronics cases. Try to specialize in products that are a great fit for your machine, and always remember: test, test, test. IMAGE COURTESY ROLAND UV-LED Ink Coverage, Extended: ColDesi By Don Copeland ColDesi Compress UV Inks – come in both flexible and standard (rigid) versions; I use the terms "flex- ible" and "rigid" rather than "soft" and "hard." The factors to consider really have to do with how much flexibility is needed in the inks once they are set on the substrate by the UV-LED lamps. ColDesi Compress Standard (rigid) inks – work well printing wood, alumacore, or foam core. If you want to print custom phone cases and add texture to them, or if you need to print on something deep (11.8-inch print depth is standard on Compress printers), then standard ink sets are recommended. ColDesi Compress Flexible inks – good for golf flags or leather seat backs, or any item that has some "flex" to it. UV-LED Ink Coverage, Extended: GCC By Matt Hsu GCC UV ink – with GCC inks, users do not need to prepare different inks for rigid or flexible materials. We've successfully tested for the soft mate- rials vinyl, PET film, and paper. A&E JANUARY 2019 • 9
