24 a-e-mag.com • A&E JANUARY 2019 Sales & Marketing have great energy, ambition, and positive vision, but we are somewhat unsure of our direction or our calling as to where and what we want to accomplish. We know we want this job to be better than our other jobs. We know from the get-go that many people who have encouraged us are watching to see what happens. You may have had a direction, or you might have had a single account that landed in your lap that was profitable, and after that you stepped back and said, "What do I do now?" This may not have been a public statement, but it was one between your two ears that kept you wondering if this was the right decision for you. But keep the faith… life is made up of many people who didn't have the guts to make the decision that you have made. Years ago, there was a sales trainer who said that those that don't make the deci- sion to branch out on their own may be poor all of their life with little to show for their efforts or accomplishments that is rewarding. In this series of articles, I want us to consider the future of our business and how we can make a plan to expand it and help it grow. Growth is important and must happen in order to keep your interest and dedication to your craft. We are going to examine many tips to help the small operation grow to the next level. Most have obligations and monthly expenses that are always in the back of their mind. It is an added pressure to know that it is up to you. When we start a business, we must consider that this is just what comes with the territory — we must accept this condition and be ready to add it to our list of responsibilities. Our obligations cannot be dismissed because our credit rating will become more important than ever before. Make sure to guard and protect your credit — it can save you. That is the negative side of the coin, and I apologize for unloading this on you from the beginning, but there is a great positive on the other side. The opportunity to profit from ideas and personal accomplishments can be rewarding both for your pride and your bank account for those that have the drive to succeed and the fortitude to strive for their rightful spot in the business arena. You are in control and if it is up to you… the rewards are all yours! There are many tips and marketing ideas for these folks; we are going to look at some of these opportunities in the next few articles. After this series, we will shift our attention to how to market and drum up profit when you wear many hats in your business. This will be a detailed search for answers to the "Art of Selling People, because People Buy from People!"
