30 a-e-mag.com • A&E FEBRUARY 2019 "Can you decorate some drinking glasses with this logo by Friday?" A friend of mine made this request on a Tuesday. "Maybe," I said. And then I proceeded to ask my standard questions: • Do you have artwork ready? • Is the artwork high resolution and can you get it to me today? • Are you providing the glasses? • Do you have a few extra sacrificial glasses? (Because there are sure to be a few that may not pass final inspection.) I did commit to the project, and the result is illustrated in Figure A. Aside from the questions my friend (now customer) could answer, there are always a few I have to answer myself as a designer. The first two questions I generally ask are, what parts of the logo can I leave alone, and what portion of the logo do I need to replace or modify? For this project, the question that required the most noodling was, how do I replace triangles uniformly in a circular fashion? Here's what I learned.
