A&E FEBRUARY 2019 • 71 Dreamscape Making a Difference in the Type One Diabetic Community When Marissa Chavez, COO and engraving specialist at Dream- scape Technology LLC in Davenport, Iowa, was diagnosed with type one diabetes (T1D) at the age of 33, she felt a little upended. The autoimmune disease, in which insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas are mistakenly destroyed by the body's immune system, can be diagnosed early in life as well as in adulthood. The disease requires a controlled lifestyle and a dependence on injected or pumped insulin. But it doesn't have to be all negative. Chavez has chosen the positive route, joining the fight against it instead of giving in to it. She first got involved with the Juve- nile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in 2017. According to its website, JDRF is leading the fight against T1D by funding research, advocating for policies that accelerate access to new therapies, and providing a support network for millions of people around the world impacted by T1D. The organization hosts everything from fundraiser walks and bike rides to yearly galas. "Myself and our company have a walk team that walks every May in the local JDRF Walk for a Cure," Chavez states. In 2017-2018, the team raised $3,800 for its walk donation. "We are continuously fundraising for our walk team donations." In addition, Dreamscape has also participated in the Eastern Iowa yearly gala and has done other fundraising events such as trivia nights and golf tournaments. The coral hue features gold undertones that the institute says "energizes and enlivens with a softer edge." Seeking inspiration for this year's color, the organization says Living Coral is in reaction to the prominence of digital technology and social media in daily life and the desire for authentic experi- ences. The institute also states that the shade symbolizes an "innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits" and the "desire for playful expression." Allen/ColorCraft Partners with Thermos LLC Thermos announces a partnership with Allen/ColorCraft and with Compass Promos as a way to extend its reach into the promotional products market. Starting in January 2019, Allen/ColorCraft now distributes Thermos brand vacuum-insulated food and beverage containers within the promotional products industry in the United States as well as Canada.
