The success of our company relates directly to the success of our team. THE FIVE MAJOR COMPONENTS OF TEAMWORK There are five major components of teamwork that we discuss in our meet- ings that our managers must understand in order to guide their employees in the right direction. These components are trust, conflict, commitment, account- ability, and results. We define and teach the importance of each component and how they relate to the interaction of our entire team. I will break down each one and how they relate to teamwork within a company. • Trust. Trust lies at the heart of a func- tioning, cohesive team, and can only happen when team members become completely vulnerable with one other. This includes saying things like, "I'm sorry," or, "Your idea was better than mine." We teach that it is not a given that we will all be friends outside of work, but "inside the lines" (meaning, once you enter the front door) we must all be professional. Maintaining good relationships with other managers inside the lines promotes an atmosphere of trust. We also stress that egos are checked at the front door. Rather than being a competition, it is a team effort. It is important for managers to promote an atmosphere of trust.
