Advise your customer that an additional 'wet white' plate is neces- sary to keep these hues true to color. 2. DESIGN REQUIREMENTS The image for the design must be full size and at least 300 dpi to deliver a good result. If the design is too small or of poor qual- ity, the finished product will not satisfy the customer. In addition, it is best to design in Photoshop RGB mode. Next, scan, load, or design the image into Photoshop while it is set in RGB mode. If you should receive art from an outside source that is already converted to CMYK, The customer must understand going into the project that four-color process does not cover the entire gamut of colors in the world or even the color gamut on the com- puter screen. The final product should be a reasonable representation of color in the image, but don't expect the four-colors to cover specific Pantone colors. If a Pantone color or fluorescent is requested, there must be a separate film to cover that color. With the right separations, four-color process can be printed on dark garments. However, the customer mustn't expect that the prints will look identical on both light and dark garments. Also, if there are flesh tones or pastel col- ors in the design, they will most likely shift If separated correctly, four-color process can create a nice range of colors to replicate a design. Above: The color values loaded through the color settings will load the custom name, black limit, and dot gain ratios needed to create an accurate four-color process separation. Left: Once the color data is loaded, converting to CMYK will allow Photoshop to create the separation based on the ink that will be used in production. Right: Eliminating the top 25 percent of the black in- formation will allow CMY to create the subtle gray shades in the design, which creates nicer transitions.
