58 • A&E MARCH 2019 CrystalEdge Launches New Website You might remember CrystalEdge's old website – a site that existed since the early days of the internet. While it served its purpose, it was time to bring it up to speed with the new genera- tion of B2B e-commerce sites. "Like any good e-commerce site, we simply want to facilitate an easier shopping experience. You ultimately want to make your customers' lives a bit easier by building a website that allows them to find exactly what they need, quickly and easily, and provide all the necessary information and tools to allow them to make the best purchasing decisions and process their orders," says Barry Slee, president of CrystalEdge. CrystalEdge began its website redesign process last summer. After working out the entire site design, flow, and functionality using AdobeXD, it was time to get the web coders involved. After a month of executing the design, the new site launched in early December of 2018. Check out more about the new site here: Trotec Hosts Third Thursdays Training Seminars On the third Thursday of every month in 2019, Trotec will host product demonstrations and specialized laser workshops, led by laser experts. Featuring a different training topic each month, these workshops are designed for everyone from novice to expert. Attendance to any Trotec Third Thursday is free whether you are an existing Trotec owner or not. The first event took place on January 17 at Trotec USA head- quarters in Plymouth, Michigan. January's training topic covered CorelDRAW software and how to set up basic raster and vector files to be processed with the laser. Attendees had the oppor- tunity to learn how to create basic shapes, use color mapping, and discover software shortcuts that can reduce file prep time. "The purpose of the seminars is to provide attendees with laser knowledge that will help them become more efficient and profitable in their businesses," states Warren Knipple, president of Trotec. Featuring a different training topic each month, workshops will cover topics suitable for beginners as well as experienced laser users, including software training, laser and engraving materials, accessory options, and laser hacks. According to Knipple, "Attendees will walk away with laser knowledge that will help them become more efficient and profitable in their businesses." Go to for more information. Main Street Flowers and More Closes its Trophy and Engraving Departments Main Street Flowers and More, located in Kilgore, Texas, closed its trophy and engraving departments in December of 2018. The owner and manager, Martha Fertitta, states it is due to lack of profit. The shop first began about 30 years ago as a printing busi- ness. As the shop grew, other departments were added, including floral and engraving services. "I took it over when it was closing and had to learn everything from scratch. The people that had it before, had it for 30 years. They were renting my building and were going to close it, so I took it over. We bought the laser and learned how to use it through Epilog training and playing with it," Fertitta elaborates. Once Fertitta took over the business nine and half years ago, she explains that they added a laser engraver on top of the rotary engraver they already had. The local chamber of commerce, the fire department, and school system were all part of the shop's engraving and person- alization clientele. According to Fertitta, these customers mostly ordered plaques but very few trophies, citing that youth sports teams often get their trophies over the internet these days.
