78 • March 2019 • S I G N & D I G I T A L G R A P H I C S ARCHITECTURAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL A box full of shop-made brackets are used to secure all the aluminum tubing of the internal frame. Self-drilling screws, hex head #10 x .75" were used to attach all the internal frame- work pieces together using a considerable quantity of aluminum brackets. The 1" x 3" vertical frame members are in place on one side, and the smaller hori- zontal stringer, made in five parts is being installed. The framework on both sides is shown complete in this photo. Frances was diligently working back at the shop, right side up, and upside down, applying vinyl graphics to these large five-section sign faces. Starting from the middle, and working to each end, lightweight aluminum laminate sign face sections are secured in place. A calm day is best for this step. Many large-head screws were used to secure the 10 sign face panels, and the pow- der coated finish on the screw heads will probably outlast the faces themselves.
