34 • A&E APRIL 2019 G raphic design is the marriage of art and text for the purpose of delivering a message, and some- times the text is the only artwork. So, understanding text layout and the basic mechanics of manipulating text is impor- tant for any design project. If you're at the formative stages in your experience with CorelDRAW, then this is a perfect time to understand the fundamentals of text. In this tutorial, the tool and techniques are broken down into different tool segments. And while these tools represent a good slice of the basics of working with text, there is much more to learn beyond this article. Use this as a foundation, and then use your design muscles to explore the potential of the written word and how to manipulate it to work in your design. Note: This tutorial was created using CorelDRAW 19.0 (2017); however, all the tools shown have been around in one form or another since the software's inception.
