"We do our own thing," says Marlene Snyder, vice president of sales and marketing. "We put a big focus on quality; we use different components, so our warranty is twice as long as others. Everything we do is driven around: Will it last? Will it hold up over time?" A good example is the company's Durango Gold luxury fifth wheel – the flagship of its fifth wheel lineup and one of three models (the Durango and the Durango Half-Ton being the others) that KZ promotes for full-time use. KZ uses R-38 insulation from front to rear and installs all plumbing and dump valves inside so they're heated, making it a true four-season unit and thereby extending the season to year-round, according to Snyder, a 25-year KZ veteran. "If other manu- facturers know their customers are living full-time in their unit, they will void t h e i r w a r r a n t y, " Snyder says. "We warranty our entire Durango fifth wheel lines for full-time use: it's in our bro- chures and on our website. We pitch it. Our warranty stands above the rest because you can live in your RV and still get our two-year warranty." The Durango Gold is "in a great price point (MSRP starting at $83,000) where the value is there for the dollars," she adds. "We're hearing a lot of good feedback on the Gold; Thor's 'quiet' subsidiary is amping up its presence in the luxury fiver market while maintaining its focus on producing quality, full-time coaches. KZ may have a reputation as the "quiet" Thor division, but the RV manufacturer has received some extra attention lately thanks to the five Judges' Choice Awards it picked up at the RVX show in March, including for its Durango D333RLT model.
