rv-pro.com May 2019 • RV PRO • 49 Over the years, Cris Holzworth gradually took over from his dad, and his sons Zack and Nick grew up in the business. Rod and Pat Holzworth now live in Florida. "My brother and I, we both spent a lot of time out in the shop. We'd literally come here from school. When my father was working, we'd do homework in the kitchen," Zack Holzworth recalls. "If the shop was empty, we'd throw a football between the bays." When he was 11 or 12 years old, Zack Holzworth says, he started working at Exit 1 during the summers, washing campers, learning about the 12-volt electrical systems and how campers worked. As he got older, his skills and his value to the business grew. "After I graduated from high school, before I went to col- lege, I was doing on average 50 to 60 hours a week," he says. "I finished college in May 2016. I graduated on a Saturday and started work the next Monday," he says. "I didn't take a celebratory vacation. My vacation was that Sunday." A Family Affair Now father and son own the business, which truly is a family affair. Although Zack Holzworth says their job titles are only loosely assigned, Cris Holzworth is the general manager, Cris Holzworth's brother Rod Holzworth is service manager, Zack Holzworth is more or less the sales manager, his stepmother, Shelly Lavene, works in the store and handles a variety of respon- sibilities, and his brother, Nick Holzworth, works part-time. Altogether, Exit 1 RV has five full-time and two part-time employees, he says. "We're a small enough business that everybody does every- thing," Cris Holzworth says. The elder Rod Holzworth gave the dealership the name Exit Above: The small but dedicated Exit 1 team retail travel trailers and fifth wheels from trusted manufacturers Coachmen and Starcraft. Right: Sales rep Kelly Morgan works out the details of a sale with customers. Thanks to the dealership's strong focus on service work, Exit 1 enjoys strong customer loyalty and repeat business.
