"When you walk in the door looking for a part, chances are we have it," or can get it from a distributor in Syracuse, N.Y., the next day, he says. In addition to sales and service, Exit 1 RV stores customers' campers on its lot, which has been enlarged repeatedly. In the winter, the dealership has 40 to 50 RVs in storage, Zack Holzworth says. Exit 1 RV is open six days a week, closing every Sunday of the year except for one. "Typically in April we have our open-house event. A friend brings in a whole bunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, and sausages and cooks them right outside the shop. We open up all the campers, and hundreds of people come each day – thousands of people over the course of the three-day weekend. "It's just a time to reconnect with customers whom we may not have seen for a couple of years," he says. "People grab a hot dog and go look at campers." Campers Helping Campers Cris and Zack Holzworth say another important way that they stay in touch with their customers' needs is by going camping themselves. Both fondly remember family trips in the RV. "One of my earliest childhood memories was my par- ents taking us camping to the Poconos in Pennsylvania in a 1960-something Smokey travel trailer, probably 18 feet long," Cris Holzworth says. "We actually brought our cat, whose name was Smokey." And they continue to camp regularly. "We go camping with a group of five or six families twice a year pretty much every year," Zack Holzworth says. "It's important, because if you don't know why you're doing what you're doing, what's the point of doing it?" Adds Cris Holzworth: "I think that gives us a unique perspective, from our customers' viewpoint. We camp, so we get it."
