What quality level and price range are you focused on? What products will you sell, or design and make yourself? Fill a pad with these types of questions, then take your time and answer them. If this is difficult and the tendency is to give broad answers, add the word "best" or "favorite" in front of the products or services you name. This helps you narrow things down and find a focus. This focus is key as you want your business to stand out to the customers most interested in the products and services you want to sell. This doesn't mean you will turn away all other business; however, it does mean this is the business you want to actively go after. SOCIAL MEDIA Social media is a good way to promote your business. Understand that different age groups tend to favor different platforms. Social media may also differ by region of the country you are in. It's best to ask as many potential customers as you can which plat- form they use. This question is an excellent conversation starter at social events. Social media posting and responding can take over your life, so if you can't afford to have a full-time employee managing it, pick and choose only a few sites.
