A&E JUNE 2019 • 29 Sublimation PLAN YOUR BUSINESS Write down a plan to make your busi- ness idea a reality. A business plan can be a simple one-page document. You want to articulate your vision and include such things as how you will market your items and where (Etsy, for example). It is much like an outline that will guide your business from launch through growth. The purpose is to give you clarity about what you hope to accomplish and how you plan to do it. CHOOSE A BUSINESS STRUCTURE Choosing a business structure is a sig- nificant step, and my recommendation is to consult with an attorney or CPA that can help you determine what is best suited for you. The types of business entities you can choose from include a sole proprietorship, a partnership, a limited liability company (LLC), or an S Corporation. The busi- ness entity you choose will impact many factors, from your business name to your liability and how you file your taxes. Being equipped with this knowledge helps you move forward confidently. PICK YOUR BUSINESS NAME Once you have chosen a name for your business, check if it's trademarked or currently in use. To check if the name is in use, go to the Secretary of State in your state, and most of the time the lookup is free of charge. If it isn't in use, register it. As an example, if you choose to be a sole proprietor, you should reg- ister your business name with either the state or county clerk. If one incorporates My adventure began as I incorporated vinyl, glitter, and cutting cardstock into my decorating mix. The magic of sublimation can be seen here on these decorated gifts.
