Get the employee moving forward instead of loitering in the past. TAKING CARE OF (IMMEDIATE) BUSINESS Finally, clearly state the business and stra- tegic goals for the entire organization. Let them in on why you decided to acquire their company. When your reasons for making the purchase become known, em- ployees can follow your line of thinking and rally behind your cause. Generally, we are very social animals. Most people want to be part of a winning team, feel like they are not alone in their quest for success, and relish the opportunity to accomplish things as groups. Expect to learn new methods from your new employees. They had to be doing most things right at this point. If you keep the new company focused on its new business goals by leverag- ing their pool of talent, there will be less time for them to dwell on the past. In Carly Simon's song, Anticipation, she sings 'these are the good old days.' She's right. Now, it is up to you to exhibit the strong but respectful leadership to steer this new ship in the right direction across uncharted waters. Navigate with care, but don't be afraid to take some risks. You may just discover a new world. Good luck.
