JULY SPECIAL SECTION 122 • RV PRO • July 2019 RV PRO: ALL IN THE FAMILY R andy Fife is a busy man. President and chairman of his local Rotary Club, band leader at his church (he's the keyboard), playing weddings and private events with his family-led Top 40s band, and, of course, running Nature Coast RV in Crystal River, Fla. "One of the things that's important is to have a faith in the community," says Fife. "We've been a member of the Chamber of Commerce for 30 years." (Oh, and he helps referee basketball games in the community.) "I'm pretty busy," he laughs. At 70 years old, he's busy but happy. Over the decades he's watched as his two sons have come in to the family business of selling and servicing RVs. The greatest pleasure, he says, is having an opportunity to see them develop as individuals. "It's really nice watching them grow the business and develop relationships with customers," Randy says. "Because that's critical to our survival as a small business. We have to grow relationships, or we wouldn't survive. And I am so proud when a customer comes in and says, 'Your boy did a wonderful job.'" One moment of pride that particularly stood out was when a single mother came in with a 2-year-old and 16-year-old. She needed a place to stay, so Nature Coast was able to arrange and set up a used fifth wheel for their needs. That weekend, though, she ran into issues with the black water tank. So, on Sunday, Randy's son made a personal call, going above and beyond to solve the issue. The result was a very glowing Google review. "When people walk in here, they can tell it's a family business," Randy says. "They just feel at ease. They know I'm in the corner office in the front and my door is open. We're not here to get filthy rich. We're here to provide a service and be friendly and develop relationships." He mentions how customers are especially fond of the technicians, who are happy to answer any questions they may have. Overall, the business is made strong by a family dynamic that grew in a variety of ways. The Fife band continues to play gigs together – one of his favorite songs being Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton's "Islands in the Stream." "As a matter of fact we're getting ready to play that at a church dance party," he says. "We're having a country hoedown in a couple of weeks, so we got to get ready to do that song again."
