All three – Eclipse RV, Pacific Coachworks (PCW) and Genesis Supreme RV – sprang up in this century and each has found a unique way to prosper. Notably, the trio's strategic location puts them within 1,000 miles of seven of the nation's Top 10 toy hauler markets (see Figure 1 on page 58), which means they can thrive by competing in just 12 states, more or less from the Rocky Mountains and westward. Cal- ifornia is their No. 1 market, followed by Arizona. The remainder of their market consists of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas. Pacific Coachworks and Eclipse RV recently entered the Texas market, while Genesis Supreme is eyeing that market, as well as New Mexico, and could establish dealers in both states by year-end. According to company representatives, open floorplans, longer cargo garages and larger holding tanks are a must to satisfy Western consumers, many of whom routinely head out to desert climates to recreate with their big "toys." Solar power also is becoming more and more popular among consumers, so the OEMs are upgrading their solar packages, too. The "open" floorplan means there is no wall separating the cargo area from the living area. West Coast-based toy hauler manufacturers are powerhouses in their respective market.
