Talking of street trucks and Chip Foose, his '67 C/28 came about when Chip found an original Z/28 Camaro engine date-coded to the day to match the '67 C10 he already owned. If you know Foose, you know he has a canny way of finding the right stuff. The concept then was to explore what Chevy might have done had it dropped the Z/28 engine into the C10 at the factory. Originally, this was to be Foose's personal ride, but again if you know him you know that's unlikely. Nevertheless, the 302 was ported and polished and made to work in a modern environment while the stock chassis was upgraded (read: lowered) with Hotchkis suspension and brakes and a unique set of Foose five-spokes. Needless to say, Foose sold the truck. 'C' FOR CREATIVITY Another what-if C10 coming together is a '67 for Bob Florine of ARP Racing Products being built by Steve Strope's purevisionde- Strope asked, "What if Chevy was building its own shop truck and used parts from a 427 Corvette?" "We found all the right parts including a 427 block, L88 heads, Snowflake intake and Tri-power, a date-coded Muncie 4-speed and the 'Vette independent front and rear suspension," he reports. "It's even going to be painted Marina Blue by Mick's Paint." At the other end of the spectrum, or should we say lowered a whole lot more, are the trucks from Canadian Del Uschen- ko's in Prescott, Arizona. Uschenko got his start in the hot rod busi- ness working for the likes of Troy Ladd's Hollywood Hot Rods before branching out on his own. "I built my own C10 in 2010," he says, "and suddenly it went to the next level and I'm building trucks for a string of customers." Delmo's trucks tend to be patinated, bagged to the weeds—he builds the lowest C10s on the planet—and fitted with Uschenko's signature smooth Delmo wheels. "I built the first set from some old Center Lines and factory caps, but now I use intro- while makes most of my other parts that include engine kits, valve cover adapters and coil relocators," he says. Two of Uschenko's most popular products are his replacement billet aluminum door handles and his new inner fender panels. Uschenko is happy with his move to Arizona. "There's a great truck scene here. I have a lot of friends and somehow it's less com- petitive. We help each other rather than fight each other." One thing I discovered while researching the C10 scene is that it is remindful of old- time car clubs in that at the consumer end of the hobby these guys hang out together, caravan to shows, party and have a good time. It's refreshingly fun. Events, particularly the C10triplecrown. com series, are a big part of the C10 world. The kickoff event is usually the Brothers Truck Show in Anaheim, California, around the end of June. Now in its 21st year, Brothers usually attracts more than 700 trucks. Next it's C10s In The Park, the largest C10 gathering in the South in historic Waxahachie, Texas, in September. Dino's Chevy-Only Gitdown provides the November finale in Phoenix.
