AUGUST 2019 THE SHOP 37 And, the endeavor is becoming a family affair. Ankin is now passing down his tech- niques, and his overall love of customiza- tion, to his son Brayden. In a memorable ToyMakerz, episode, the father-son duo prepare for Brayden's first Jr. Dragster race. "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree," says Ankin, "It was awesome to see Brayden out on the track for the first time. He clearly has an incredible future—after all, he is the next generation ToyMaker and my son." From learning machine building as a kid to attracting an audience of millions on TV, David Ankin believes his work embodies the importance of family legacy and the meaning of fatherhood. He is a fourth-gen- eration builder who learned a love of hot rods, creative design and a deep curiosity about machine operation from his own father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who all held positions in the automotive industry over the years. On the show he also talks shop with pas- sionate gearheads ranging from Dean Cain to Richard Petty to Sarah Edwards, and visits events like Capital City Bikefest and Road Devils Car Show. Celebrating the incredible talent and creativity of the automotive aftermarket, ToyMakerz, gives fans a front-row seat to the process behind building powerful, memo- rable machines, allowing a former stuntman to show that dreams can come true. Ankin plans to be at the 2019 SEMA Show with SB Power Tools. BUILT TO WIN BRAKE LATE. FINISH FIRST.
