Part 1 appeared in the June 2019 issue of THE SHOP. T he commercial work truck and van industry may not be the eye candy of the automotive aftermarket, but it is overflowing with opportunity. From budding partnerships at dealerships and large-scale fleet bids to upfitting local municipalities, potential for increased sales revenue is around every corner. Fleet busi- ness is so strong, in fact, that even national retailers like Pep Boys have launched special programs to serve these professionals on the go. Aftermarket manufacturers, distribu- tors and trade associations like NTEA and SEMA have been following the industry's explosive growth, especially during the past decade. All are responding with innovative products that remedy challenges at the worksite, advanced logistics and distribu- tion to meet increased demand, and valu- able resources to assist automotive retailers and installers. Last time, readers were presented with a comprehensive overview on the cur- rent state of the professional market, from NTEA data to tariff implications and beyond.
