176 THE SHOP AUGUST 2019 \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ ehicle wraps with an artistic slant are the latest aftermarket acces- sories to become an OEM option. Porsche Digital has launched its Second Skin online configurator that enables cus- tomized livery designs to be applied to vehicles. "As the livery segment is a very frag- mented market, we have created a central port of call with Second Skin to guarantee quality and offer a comprehensive approach to finding a solution," said Simon Weiss of Porsche Digital. In addition to classic schemes stemming from motorsports, users will also be able to create wrap designs inspired by fashion and the arts, according to the company. The platform is collaborating with artists, design studios, foil providers and vinyl paint manufacturers, and genuine and previously unavailable Porsche colors will also be available for selection. According to Porsche, the entire design and ordering process is fully processed in Second Skin. Customers select the vehicle model and design it independently or as part of a consultation to obtain a non-binding offer and finish the order online. LE MANS RACER A BRIGHT EXAMPLE A Second Skin livery was on display in June at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Porsche cus- tomer team Project 1 competed in the long-distance classic in a Porsche 911 RSR featuring a design based on three works by New York-based pop art artist Richard Phillips. "We wanted to use the project in Le Mans to demonstrate what we can do in terms of automo- tive design and that there are no limits to the imagination with Second Skin," noted Flo- rian Rothfuss, director of digital business, Porsche Digital. "The greatest challenge was to apply a three-part image on a vehicle. We are also very happy with the result because the effect of the colors is unique." The company says Second Skin is open to all current Porsche models, as well as vehicles from other automotive brands. Liveries can be applied and designed using the platform at a cost of around $4,500. Information is available at secondskin. design.
