Having a well-informed salesman who knows the advantages and disadvan- tages of the products will translate into an increase in performance clutch sales." EXEDY's Young echoes that advice. "Be familiar with the product you are trying to sell, and have a good under- standing of your customer's intended use for the vehicle," he advises. "The better (a shop's) understanding of these factors, the better the result for the customer, which will lead to more sales opportunities." "There are a great many choices out there when it comes to quality performance clutches and most shops have their favor- ites. Since most consumers end up replacing the clutch when the one in the car begins to fail, they are not usually thinking long- term performance strategy," he explains. "The shop owner should be looking out for the end-user. For instance, if they do not have a performance flywheel in the vehicle, now is the best time to suggest one. It is usually six to eight additional bolts in addition to replacing the clutch, and great gains in overall performance can be had by lightening up the rotating assembly."
