What some shops might not think of, however, is that one of the essential pieces of equipment for running a successful business doesn't come in the form of heavy machinery. With apparel decoration, having a comprehensive set of business software management tools can help the backend run just as smooth as the front office. SHOP AROUND While purchasing software won't necessarily be as much of an investment as machinery, it'll still cost a sizeable amount for reputable programs, so decorators will want to do some re- search. Before researching the actual product, it's generally rec- ommended that business owners look at their own challenges and needs first. "Business management software is going to bring some change to your shop, which is a good thing," says Matt Peterson, InkSoft. "Discovering how that change will be implemented is an impor- tant thing to look for." Producers can start with some basic questions to make sure they're shopping for the right product. Some key things they'll want to consider are questions like: • Is there ample staff to transition to this new system? • Does it have cloud-based capability?
