Our Holley aluminum pan easily bolted up with a flush mount to the block skirts and front and rear covers. I always install the front and rear covers somewhat loose initially at the block. Using a straight-edge, I then make sure that the oil pan mating surfaces are flush and even with the block pan rails before fully tightening the front and rear cover bolts to 18 foot-pounds. The front and rear covers are secured with ARP 434-1504 (434-2502 is ARP's spec for the front cover, but the thickness of the COMP front cover requires the shorter 434-1504 bolts, same as the rear cover). The oil pan is secured with ARP kit 434- 6902. The front and rear covers and the oil pan were sealed with gaskets from our Fel- Pro set. Prior to pan installation, I applied a small dab of RTV at each corner of the pan rail where the pan meets the front and rear covers. Note: always install the rear main seal dry—don't lube the crank flange or the seal. Make sure the crank flange is dry. The Dart block features a dipstick hole in the block, the entrance of which is pocket- recessed. Our dipstick of choice is Lokar's XED-5008, a flexible unit in black. How- ever, the aluminum hose end at the base of the dipstick assembly interferes with the upper floor of the dipstick hole pocket, preventing full insertion. The solution is to relieve the angled recess upper floor on the block (this would be very easy during initial block prep by grinding off about 1/8-inch of the cast iron pocket). If using a traditional dipstick, clearance is not an issue. Just be aware of this if you plan to use a custom dipstick assembly. This isn't a fault by either Dart or Lokar, since neither the block nor the dipstick tube were specifically intended for this combo. The cover is secured with ARP polished 12-point stainless bolts. An LS2-style camshaft position sensor mounts to the COMP cover.
