A&E JANUARY 2020 • 33 Graphic Design An alternate solution is to create a contour and use the Blend feature for the shadow. Figure 3 shows this image: first a contour around the lettering, broken apart and filled with 70% black, duplicated and sent back one and filled with white, then nudged equally down and to the right. These two are then blended together. Create Boundary follows the contour of my shadow for a more realistic result. In this instance, I first chose the Smart Fill tool and clicked the vacant area right of the "C" to include it, then combined it with the boundary object. Once finished, I chose the cut-line and diminished nodes with the Shape tool. In both figures, the cut-line is indicated by the orange outline. We had previously looked briefly at the Bevel tool — here we'll look more closely. Figure 4 shows one of the results using it. There are several options here. For this effect, I chose Soft edge for the Style and Bevel offset is To Center. The text has a Cyan fill, the stars are Red. I selected the text first, then adjusted Intensity to 100, Direction to 120, and Altitude to 20, then clicked Apply. Fig 2 Fig 3 I am always intrigued by any new insights and/or questions. Please send those to: Questions will be answered in the detail received.
