70 THE SHOP MARCH 2020 While the rest of the family and staff of 15 run the diner and hotel, Christian continues to work in the garage where he builds and restores American classics— everything from a 1932 Ford 5-window to Cobras and Corvettes and even old Harleys. And, when they are not at Down Town Garage, the Blaudschuks are in the U.S. buying classic American artifacts that they ship back to Germany and sell. In England, not that far from the pro- posed Mullin at Great Tew and close to Shakespeare's home of Stratford-upon- Avon, I was directed to Caffeine & Machine (C&M), a recently opened bou- tique hotel. I turned up on a Thursday morning expecting the place to be a ghost town, but it was far from it. The parking lot held about 30 cars, ranging from Gen-V Camaros and Mustangs to Mercedes and American businessman and philanthropist Peter Mullin recently announced The Mullin at Great Tew, a $180-plus-million country estate-inspired auto-related facility on 160 acres west of London. 70 THE SHOP MARCH 2020 CAR TRIPS
