2020 THE TEAM SALES REPORT | 17 Team jerseys aren't the only items that can be dye subli- mated. Cheerleading and pep squad uniforms can also be sublimated with team logos. Other items in huge demand are accessories like water bottles, tumblers, rally towels, hair bows, gloves, hats, and socks. Arm sleeves are another quick and popular item that can be dye-sublimated with a sports team's mascot or logo. Ellston says that customized flip-flops and car flags have become a huge market. Teams are putting their team logo on them and selling them through their booster clubs. Sublimat- ed blankets are also in big demand. Team fans can take these blankets to games with them, sporting either the team logo or photos of the team. Coaching staff have started purchasing dye- sublimated clipboards that are sublimatable on both sides. One side could have a football grid on it that acts like a white board, while the other side could sport the school's logo. Dye sublimated patches are another, cheaper way to get into the athletic sportswear market. Patches can be sublimated and then attached to clothing or hats. Dye sublimation is also perfect for team awards. "You can do plaques or little trophy plates," she says. "you can get them done quick, even onsite at tournaments." Many teams hire print shops to be present at tournaments and other special events so that the awards can be customized with the winners' names immediately. Many retailers will work with booster clubs to split the profits from dye sublimated athletic items as well. Not all printers work for sublimation, Ellston says, so when purchasing a printer, make sure it works with the inks your shop wants to use. "We recommend American made presses. They will last much longer. They are a little more expensive but definitely worth the cost," she says. With so many benefits from easy all-over decoration, to breathable apparel in full-color and customization, sublimation is a solid option for those looking to sell both hard and soft goods to the lucrative team market.
