For owner and dealer principal Rich Carter, it all started with a flyer. "I was working for somebody when we got the flyer folded in two and stapled together. 'How would you like to be an RV dealer?' it said," says Carter. "We said, 'Look! They'll just ship us up units.'" So, Carter went to his bank and got a loan on his used car. "I put it into a checking account, got a floorplan (loan) and put four coaches on an old abandoned gas station lot. Now, I do more than $18 million a year," Carter says with a laugh. Looking back, Carter says he can't believe how lucky the timing of his entrance into the RV industry was. "When I got started, the RV business wasn't what it is now, by any means," he says. "Twenty years later and I think it would be very hard for somebody to get to where I am without a lot of financial backing." Retailing Quality Products Spurs Growth Carter says the reason behind his deal- ership's growth has been ensuring quality products on his lot by carefully choosing his RV manufacturer partners. "I started out with myself and two other guys," he says. "We've grown and grown as we've gotten more units and more product available. "I started out with very little funds. Because I could buy more with what I had to spend, I was able to expand into fifth wheels and bigger products," he says. "I make sure the product I have is the best out there on the market for the customer to look at."
