Where the Great Recession eventually led to new renters and home purchasers buying up foreclosures and short sales, today we have investors ready to purchase. FINDING THE WAY BACK If there's something we can take away from the successful climb out of the Great Reces- sion and apply to the COVID-19-broken economy, it is adaptation. Things won't go back to normal—or at least not the normal we knew. Even though we're hopeful, we must accept that there will be changes and learn to adapt to them as we rebuild the economy. Modifying approaches through the chaos instead of dwelling on what used to be will be a major ingredient to rebuilding our shops, just like we're seeing the struggling restaurant industry attempt to do. An example from the Great Recession would be when gas prices skyrocketed and the auto manufacturers adapted by building smaller, more fuel-efficient SUVs and trucks. My shop adapted by training our dealerships' sales teams to save their customers money by adding only the accessories the customers stated they needed. Having a plan in place as each state slowly reopens is important. So is remembering that this is a worldwide pandemic. It will take some effort to connect with vendors scattered across the country, all facing It's also a time to appreciate your staff and their dedication to your business in this time of uncertainty.
