46 THE SHOP JULY 2020 B rother-and-sister business owners Wills and Daniela Amstutz of Gil- bert, Arizona got into the car detailing business because they wanted to make their mother's new car look nice. They attracted a few customers and soon they had a 2,500-square-foot shop and a full-fledged business offering car detailing and paint polishing, along with paint protection film and window tint installa- tions, called Windows and Wheels Auto Detailing LLC. "I'm always looking to make improve- ments and be more productive than the day before," says Wills. "Scaling a business without sacrificing quality is always a chal- lenge, but it is one I enjoy. We eased our way into things, and it paid off." In the next one to two years, the team hopes to move into a bigger shop, bring in more customers, service more vehicles at the same time, and add two to four staff members (the crew currently consists of three employees, plus Wills and Daniela) while serving the greater Phoenix area. STARTING OUT AS A HOBBY About 15 years ago, Wills and Daniela Windows and Wheels in Arizona has upped its film game. SPECIAL REPORT: TINT & PPF This spring's COVID-19 outbreak actu- ally meant a little more work for Wills and Daniela Amstutz, the brother-and- sister owners of Windows and Wheels LLC in Gilbert, Arizona. "We let our (three) employees stay home for the entire month of April, with pay, while Daniela and I held down the shop," Wills reports. "It kind of felt like the old days with just the two of us." The detailing and film installation shop remained open for business during the first months of the coronavirus out - break, taking necessary precautions such as avoiding handshakes, keeping a safe distance, and disinfecting surfaces every morning, evening and after each person left the facility, Wills notes. The business also suspended doing any type of interior cleaning of vehicles to ensure the safety of its customers and employees. Wills calls these "unusual and trying times," and says the experience has made the company even more grateful for its loyal and new customers. As of early May, he reported, "Our guys are back in the shop now and business is starting to pick back up— thank goodness!" CORONAVIRUS UPDATE Got You Covered Windows and Wheels LLC offers car detailing and paint polishing, along with paint protection film and window tint installations to Phoenix-area customers.
