Duo Form Pitches in with Plastic Products During the COVID-19 health crisis, Duo Form was able to re-tool many of its production lines to provide much-needed equipment on several fronts. The Edwardsburg, Mich.-based supplier of RV OEM and aftermarket parts was able to create face shields to help meet the ever-increasing need for personal pro- tective gear by medical professionals. Duo Form focused its resources on helping the fight against coronavirus by using its extensive plastics knowledge to produce face shields for the local needs of personal protective gear. Duo Form has more than 50 years of experience in forming RV parts and pieces, as well as work truck and other essential medical equip- ment and supplies. With the state of Michigan's stay-at-home mandate, the plant in Edwardsburg was mostly closed for produc- tion. The ownership and engineering teams were busy, however, trying to quickly design and create new tools that would allow the company to enhance production to include some of these most-needed personal protection items during this medical pandemic. "We have a strong commitment to our employees, customers, service partners, and communities during the ongoing coronavirus situation. Ensuring their safety continues to be our No. 1 commitment," says Shelly Ditmer, vice president of sales. Mike Gonser, director of Duo new product develop- ment says, "We have worked extensively with local area medical professionals to ensure that the personal pro- tective gear that we are able to produce will meet their needs. It is important for us to be able to do something to contribute to the efforts to help combat this pandemic and do what we can to help get life back to normal." Duo Form reports that it produced 3,000 face shields right away and another 9,000 the next week. They will be used in local hospitals and health care facilities. The company also launched its new DUO Intubation Boxes used to help protect medical workers on the front lines in the battle against the novel coronavirus. The DUO Intubation Boxes provide additional pro- tection between medical staff and patient when per- forming endotracheal intubation in a patient with known or suspected COVID-19. Intubating a COVID-19 patient is considered an extremely high-risk procedure for med- ical staff and the box is designed to reduce this risk by containing the aerosols generated by the patient during the intubation procedure. Duo Form also partnered with RVs 4 MDs, a not- for-profit organization that helps match donated RVs to medical professionals quarantining themselves from their families. RVs 4 MDs is a Facebook page that went viral prac- tically overnight, that has created a global movement to assist frontline health care workers and first responders during COVID-19 by pairing up RV donations to frontline medical professionals.
