"They always wanted one, but when the virus came around they didn't want to risk infecting their families, so their thinking was, 'We always wanted one, anyway, so we're getting one,'" Bailey says. "Others were close to retirement and just bought one sooner than origi- nally planned." Leading up to the pandemic, the deal- ership was doing well in sales with a good economy and the cousins were expecting a record year. "We still are," Bailey says, as people are increasingly turning to the RV life- style to recreate and avoid cruises, air travel and theme parks. "Americans are going to do something – they're not going to sit home and not take vacations." Fame RV has seen a spike in single-axle unit sales, but park models in particular have been selling "like crazy." "They're booming. We can't put our finger on why, but people who originally bought them in 2000 might be trading them in, though they do last forever, but they're definitely selling," says Bailey. The age demographic of the typical RV buyer is changing, too, Bidwell says, and is increasingly becoming younger, begin- ning at 30 years old. "As financing an RV can now be up to 15 years, many younger families can afford them." "If a dealer isn't busy right now, then they're doing something wrong," he adds. "We're maxed out, but we're comfortable maintaining our staff size as it stands and servicing our customers. We don't want to grow and lose that personal touch.
