Doing so gives the business a competitive advantage, the dealership believes. "My father asked me if I minded that he gave up the car business," says Nelsen, explaining that the business would shift to primarily retailing RVs. "I was still in high school at that point, and I had little interest in working in cars, so I thought the idea sounded fine." For roughly the next decade, Nelsen worked at the dealership with his father in various roles, including the customer service and parts departments. Andy Nelsen took over the day-to-day operations of the business in 1979, although he says his father still maintained an interest in the industry, adding that his father subsequently took to the outdoor life. "Around the time my father semi-retired in 1979 or 1980, he started traveling and camping quite a bit," says Nelsen. C. Clifton Nelsen died in 2002, but not without recognition. The same year of his passing, the RV/MH Hall of Fame added him to its ranks, while local organizations such as the Bellevue University board of directors recognized the elder Nelsen for his service and participation. Today, Andy Nelsen continues to run the business with many of the same principles his father and grandfather founded the company on.
