C O M S O F T W A R E T O S U B S T R A T E We moved our type over to Adobe Photoshop to color it. The text was created with grayscale to identify contrasts in the areas where we want tonal ranges. Gradients were placed in both sections blending from yellow to orange. The Bevel and Emboss filters under the Layers menu gave us additional dimension. Rendering the pelican was done in a tradi- tional manner in a series of layers. We laid a base set of colors for the overall color theory and proceeded to add the finer details for a complete look. We had several layers apart from each other to adjust color selectively without disrupting other areas that were satisfactory. Some of the deeper colors like dark orange and dark lavender made up for the shadow re- cesses in the beak and feathers. All the tones were built on separate layers.
