50 THE SHOP NOVEMBER 2020 MAKING A SPLASH with their families and spend time on their boats out on the water. Many choose to either invest in new boat products or enjoy DIY projects to upgrade their existing boats, which positively impacts the purchase of our sound systems. We are fortunate that boat dealers are essential services in many parts of the world and that our strong posi- tioning allows us to respond to the resulting demand. As boat ramps and marinas have continued to reopen, we are continuing to experience a very high level of demand and a strong push for product." STREET TO SURF Pro Audio Center in Richland, Mississippi has been doing car installations for more than 30 years. It has expanded into motor- cycle, UTV and marine electronics with great success. Owner Jimmy Ham says he has always stressed the importance of teamwork, which can help break down complex projects into smaller jobs that are easier to tackle, with everyone pitching in with their expertise. When customer Jason Womack came W hen car audio manufacturer JL Audio decided it wanted to grow in the marine market, it started with the marine loudspeakers it already offered to top-tier boat manufacturers. Looking for more, the company purchased the Clarion Marine brand and got to work engineering new products specifically for the line. The results of that hard work are about to hit the water. "Clarion has a deep history as a pioneering car audio company, and a particularly strong reputation as a marine audio brand," says Andy Oxenhorn, president of JL Audio Inc. "We accepted the challenge to return Clarion Marine to a leadership posi- tion with products that are relevant, well-priced and able to deliver a great customer experience." A real-world test would measure the results. Alan Blanco runs Center Consoles Only in Miami—an enthusiast site for fishermen who love center console boats. One of his boats, a 23-foot Reef Runner, had original Clarion loudspeakers installed throughout the craft. JL Audio reached out to Blanco to test the new speakers on his boat, which is exposed to the salt and sun every day. He reports: "It was really easy to swap the new speakers for the orig- inal ones. We just needed to slightly enlarge the cutout from the originals. We did it in a few hours. The sound quality difference is dramatic. You can tell that new speakers are more in line with Clarion's electronics or JL Audio speakers. For boat owners whose original speakers are abused from being exposed to the elements, this is a worthy upgrade." —Brett Solomon BOSS Audio recently launched two new weather- proof marine speakers with RGB lighting. JL Audio Propping Up Clarion Marine JL Audio's investment in Clarion Marine products will result in a new line of high-quality offerings.
