58 THE SHOP NOVEMBER 2020 2020 PROJECT VEHICLE SKETCHBOOK 1970 Ford Ranger ICON 4x4 presents a reimagined 1970 Ford Ranger, the latest in its popular Reformer series. Designed to blend timeless aesthetic appeal and high performance, the Ranger is powered by a 426-hp Ford 5.0L Coyote V-8 engine paired to a Ford AOD automatic transmission. A twin-stick Advance Adapters Atlas II transfer case sends power to the axles, while PSC power steering upgrades handling and on-road capabilities. "What we're doing is rewriting history to a certain extent by cre- ating a bespoke truck that can serve as a daily driver with timeless style, modern engineering and none of the sacrifices commonly associated with conventional restorations," says Jonathan Ward, lead designer and founder of ICON 4x4. Upgrades include Eibach coil springs, FOX shocks, Dynatrac ProRock assemblies with Dana 44 and 60 axles, ICON and Brembo Hydroboosted Sport Brake system, BFGoodrich all-terrain tires, custom 18-inch forged aluminum wheels inspired by the original factory steel rims, Vintage Air Gen IV HVAC system, Maharam textiles and special leather from Relicate, a polyurea floor surface coating and powder-coated body panels. 2019 Ford F-450 The Custom Shop in Flanagan, Illinois, has taken more than 60 projects to the SEMA Show over the past 20 years. So, when it needed a tow rig, it naturally built its own. The Ford F-450 Super Dually started with a two-wheel drive 2019 Ford F-450 that was lowered 5 inches in the front and 7 inches out back. A hood and chin spoiler from RKSport were added, along with custom ProSpray paint sprayed through SATA spray guns and Badger Air-Brush Co. airbrushes. Other upgrades include a Westin grille, side steps and bumpers with a Superwinch winch, Firestone Ride-Rite semi air bags, Cerakote for the wheels, Continental tires, TRIMAX locks and Husky Liners mud flaps. Participants include: Covercraft Industries, C-Tek, Enduratex, Grote Industries, Lloyd Mats, LUND, Malco Products, ODYSSEY Battery, POR-15, Prismatic Powders, Sony and U.S. Chemicals. Audi R8 V10 Plus Hennessey Performance Engineering offers an HPE 900 Twin Turbo Audi R8 V10 Plus upgrade featuring hypercar levels of power and performance. HPE adds two Precision Turbo twin-ball turbochargers to take the V-10 to 912 hp and a 0-60-mph time of 2.6 seconds. Further enhancements include a high-flow air induction system, dual inlet pipes, dual blow-off valves, stainless steel turbo down- pipes with thermal coating, and a host of additional high-speed components and add-ons. "Most people know us for our performance enhancements on American vehicles, but we also apply the same engineering and design excellence to European supercars like the Audi R8 and its Italian cousin, the Lamborghini Huracan," says John Hennessey, company founder.
