76 THE SHOP NOVEMBER 2020 T he SEMA Show, AAPEX, the PRI Show and many other automo- tive-related trade events were canceled this year, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic (see sidebar). But some race cars and show vehicles managed to get out of the garage and have a little fun at smaller gatherings across the country. Some were fully sanctioned while others may have skirted the gray areas of local rules or recommendations, even as orga- nizers implemented added safety measures to keep participants and attendees safe. Here are a handful of reports from shows and events that were held during the unfor- gettable summer of 2020. GRIDLIFE All types of high-performance track driving and even a few scaled-down vendor mid- ways were happening at Gridlife events throughout the summer, with a couple more still to come later this year. Main activities included Gridlife Track- battle time attack contests, Gridlife Touring Cup (GLTC) racing, HPDE (high-perfor- mance driver education) track days and drift car demos at select events, according to Adam Jabaay, motorsports director/co- founder.
