S T A R T H E R E 2 0 2 0 Roll-To-Roll Printing D'Amico adds that there are constant updates to today's printing technology, whether it be ink technology (LED UV, direct and transfer sublimation inks, as examples) or feature related. "Amongst the biggest demands is increased uptime and low operational costs. As turn-around times and margins are constantly under pressure, having systems that require minimal user interaction and minimal downtime is critical to long-term suc- cess and growth." BENEFICIAL ABILITIES Syverson points out that roll-to-roll systems such as the Durst Rhotex 325 and the Rho 312R, can be operated unat- tended, reducing labor costs. Additionally, these systems can be outfitted with larger supply and take-up systems to allow for longer print runs, reducing down-time between roll change outs. "The single most beneficial aspect of roll-to-roll printers is their ability to run unattended. As long as the printer has fea- tures that allow media to track properly without adjustment customers can enjoy a very low labor rate with roll-to-roll print- ing and in some cases even perform lights out production," Syverson says. He adds that products that provide graphics to windows, floors, and ceilings are quite popular. "Window displays as an example, that can be layered so that they can be viewed inside and outside are a growing trend." "The Rhotex 325 is used for many applications, such as flag printing, trade show graphics such as overhead signs, SEG wall graphics, pillow-case graphics in addition to fence mesh fabric and a strongly growing retail segment," adds D'Amico.
