"I do remember us having a bunch of different varieties of brands in the late '80s and early '90s, including Damon, Jayco, Montana and Cougar. But Jayco was always our main line." Today, Lineberger Jr. says the dealership believes in Jayco so strongly that it is the only brand it retails. A Family of Entrepreneurs While Terrell Camping Center dates back to 1963, the Lineberger family's roots in business go even further back. Lineberger Jr. says his grandparents, Milton and Mary Lineberger, started Terrell Motor Co. in 1953 selling Rambler cars. When the auto business declined, Milton got involved in the furni- ture business. However, when a shipment of 900 chairs manufactured by the business didn't make it to Macy's in New York on time, the order was canceled. Undaunted, Milton Lineberger decided to sell the chairs locally from the company's showroom, where they proved popular and turned a nice profit. At that point, the company name was changed to Terrell Furniture Co. In 1963, while still selling furniture, the business diversified by selling campers. The business stopped selling furniture in 1980 in order to exclu- sively focus on the RV business. Along the way, Milton and Mary Lineberger brought their son, Carroll and his wife, Sheila Lineberger, into the business, and they subsequently ran it for several years. Carroll Lineberger Jr. didn't begin working for the family business. Instead, he started work in his uncle's restaurant business … and quickly realized it wasn't for him. Veteran sales rep Randy Taylor helps a customer with paperwork at the counter while Parts Manager Brian Morrow assists a customer over the phone. The dealership places a strong focus on customer service. The dealership proudly displays its Jayco Founder's Award cup and its giant glass trophy from Jayco recognizing the dealership's 50- year partnership with the RV manufacturer.
