That means problems with RVs are invariably going to arise. When he receives a repair job, Grack says his work goes beyond just fixing a problem – he wants to ensure that the problem doesn't happen again. "Most RVs have a water pump to circulate the water through the plumbing system. Those pumps usually are poorly mounted or mounted in a place that's hard to maintain," he says as an example. The pump is supposed to be mounted with four screws, but sometimes is secured with just two, so he'll add two more. Or if it's in a hard-to-reach location, he'll move it and make sure it's well-secured. As an independent technician, Ken Grack says he can typically get to a customer's job more quickly than some dealerships, and he adds he has the luxury of spending more time to troubleshoot a problem and fix it. The Gracks have computers in their office where they can pull up information on parts and repairs for all manufacturers' products. They also have training manuals with dog-eared and smudged pages that they take on the road and use when there's no internet connection. "I'm old-school, so I like paper," Ken Grack says. He says he plans to keep saving people's vacations "as long as people can tolerate me. "We're blessed with good health," he adds. "As long as we have good health and can go and help people, we'll keep doing it."
