Printing Color Change Vinyl STEPS Prep: Wear wrap gloves or latex gloves when handling lms you intend to print on. If working with a partial roll of color- change lm, roll it out on your cutting table beforehand and carefully wipe the lm down with a uffy microber and 50/50 isopropyl alcohol/distilled water mix. Spray the 50/50 mix onto the mi- crober lightly and wipe away any oil/ ngerprints. Let the lm dry completely before rolling it back onto the cardboard core. Prep: Load your color change media into your printer and poll (size) the lm. Prep: Run about 6"–12" of film through the printer to make sure it is lined up straight D i a l i n : R u n a M e d i a F e e d Adjustment. This adjustment should be used whenever you are printing on a new lm or when you have changed the hold down pressure on the pressure rollers. Dial in: Run a Print Quality Calibration Test. This test calibrates the dot placement of bi-directional printing. Print the alignment pattern to see if the dot placement is perfectly aligned. If misaligned, enter the align- ment value to correct the accuracy of the dot placement. Dial in: Run a Nozzle Check. This makes sure that your print head is ring correctly. If a nozzle missing is found, perform an automatic cleaning and try again. Dial in: Select the proper print pro- le for your color change vinyl. We typi- cally use XPJ-1682SR 4C Avery 1105 Qu Highspeed 720 X 1440 .icc to print on our color change lms. Check your printer manufacturer's or vinyl manu- facturer's website for free downloadable print proles. Dial in: Double check your pre-heat and platen temperature in your RIP soft- ware; we use Flexi. We typically turn down our temperatures to 41C Pre- heat/ 44C Platen/ 50C Dryer for color change vinyl prints. Send it: Run a 5"–10" test print of the art le. It is better to waste a few inches of lm making sure your printer is dialed in, rather than sending a whole print le and having to stop it mid-print for adjustments. Send it: Once you are satised with your test prints you are ready to send your print le! We send panels individu- ally and keep an eye on the printer while it prints. Make sure to look out for head strikes, lm cockling and banding issues. Also be sure to attach your print to your take up reel. Finishing: When your print is n- ished, remove the roll from the take up reel. Stand the lm roll up vertically and loosen the roll so there is space between each layer of lm. This is important for eco-solvent prints; they require a 24–48- hour gas-out/curing time before lamina- tion. Most latex printers will not require dry time. Finishing: Now you are ready to lam- inate your print! Cold press or heat assist laminators will work for color change vi- nyl prints. When working with textured prints, like with an Avery Brushed Metal lm, we use Marubu Clear Shield Liquid Laminate and roll it on evenly with a paint roller. Allow additional 24-hour dry time for liquid lamination. Finishing: Now you are ready to install your custom color change print.
