OCTOBER 2021 THE SHOP 87 Typically, if we communicate enough, we're pretty good at being able to keep the schedules tight and get people taken care of. But it's a challenge because there are a lot of moving parts. You have customers that, a lot of times, we never get to meet because they bought the car from the dealership and the work was called into the shop. Me or a scheduler will handwrite work orders and get them on the schedule. And then you just have to really communicate the best you can. What's been the biggest change in the industry over the past few years? Well, first off, 15 to 20 years ago, it was so easy to hire employees. You had 18-, 19-, 20-year-old guys walking through the doors thinking, "This is my dream job." Now, hiring employees is probably the absolute hardest thing we do. We don't seem to have the cool factor we used to have, so it's about convincing new hires that this is a good opportunity—and it is. I've found the best way for us to over- come that is to really, really take care of the employees we already have. Turning to your day-to-day business, what's hot right now? Off-road products, lifts, wheels, tires and truck accessories definitely make up the biggest share of our business. I would say probably 60% of our retail busi- ness is in those categories, and we have a lot of repeat business in our retail market. Meanwhile, for the dealerships we try to keep it simple. Most people buying a (customized) truck at a dealership are buying more on looks than performance. They fall in love with the look—how the truck stands. They like the wheels. They like the product combinations that we put on them. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Available products and services include truck accessories, off-road products, 12V electronics, wheels and tires, interior accessories, leather interiors, window tint, clear masks and more.
