PERFORMANCE Round Track Roundup Takeaways from the past season and prepping for the next. By John Carollo S ure, every market is important. But, the ones that you sell to are just a little bit more important, right? Then, there's the seasonal thing where the market you follow takes on even more importance. Well, for those who service the oval track market, now is the data spike that yields more info than any other time of the year. It's the end of the on-track season and the beginning of the building season. It's a great time to take stock of what we learned this time around, and how to apply it next time. To help, we sought out fresh intel from our sources, grilling them on summarizing the season, spotting trends and identifying challenges for the upcoming year. And, while we're at it, what can we do to increase sales and serve this market better? Consistent Performer Manufacturers of parts for oval track racing rate the 2014 season as anywhere from strong to very strong. "For us, the circle track market has remained fairly unchanged. We have seen steady, consistent sales with no crazy increases or decreases," notes Jeff Behuniak, marketing coordinator, Canton Racing Products. "Unfortunately, that doesn't give us much of an indication on if the real market is up or down, or if we are just stealing or losing market share." Jeff Stacy, president of sales and marketing, Fragola Performance Systems/FK Rod Ends, is even more impressed with last season's results. "We had an amazing circle track season," he says. "The parts we generally supply are parts used in the construction of new cars. We had more sales to chassis builders this year than ever before. On the Fragola side, we are gaining acceptance in the circle track market. Racers and chassis builders are discovering our quality and reasonable price point.
