Build, text and photos By Mike Mavrigian The engine is now ready for its dyno run. The TTI headers shown here were for dis- play and photo use only. During the dyno run, we'll use the dyno shop's long-tube headers, fitted with an air/fuel sensor. Author's note: Just as a teaser, we managed to easily pull 657 hp on the engine dyno, but we'll leave those details for the next and final installment of this build series, coming in April. —MM P rior to installing the cylinder heads, I installed our aftermarket top valley tray from 440 Source (P/N 127-1011). This is held captive under the inboard edges of the heads, so it must be installed first. The valley cover must be sealed with RTV. I carefully masked off the exposed areas that run parallel to the heads, as well as the front and rear of the block under the valley cover. This allowed me to wipe any excess RTV after installation, without smearing it onto the heads or painted sur- face of the valley cover or block. I applied a thin bead of Permatex Ultra Gray RTV to the front and rear rails on the block, and installed the valley cover using 400 Source billet aluminum rails and Totally Stainless 1/4-20 x 3/4-inch bolts and flat washers, using 12-point bolts at the center of each rail and button-head screws at the ends for intake manifold clearance (with a dot of Ultra Gray applied to bolt threads), snugging the bolts to 50 inch-pounds. Immediately prior to installing the head gaskets and heads, I applied a bead about 3/16-inches thick to the upper surfaces of the valley cover side breaks, (this seals the gap between the heads and valley cover). In all four corners of the valley cover, a small void exists. These voids were "plugged" with a small glob of RTV. Once the heads were installed, with the mask- ing tape still in place, I finger-smeared the
