2015 I WRAPS I 83 Production All too often, a full-print wrap is simply tiled by the width of the panels of the material used for the vehicle. This means the production department has to trim down each panel and the installer has to precisely register each panel. Both are time consuming and easily avoided by smart tiling. The key is to see the vehicle in sections and use a mixture of vertical and horizontal panels when needed. • Driver side—The driver side was broken up into four panels: one horizontal for the fender, one vertical for the door and two horizontal panels for the back section. The overlap between the two horizontal panels was made to fit in the deep recessed area that runs in the middle of the Ford Cargo Van. As an installer, this works really well because the edge of the panels fits exactly in that recessed area, which has a slight curve from left to right. Matching the edge of the panel to the curve makes any text in the print instantly straight, so there's no need for a measuring tape. The overlaps between the back section and the driver door were made extra wide (4") so that the excess on either side could be cut off. The same was done with the break between the front fender and the door. • Passenger side—The passenger side was printed with vertical panels on the doors and horizontal for the fender and rear area. The overlap on the breaks between the doors were the same as the driver side—4". The overlap on the two horizontal panels at the back occurred in the recessed area. Creating a 4"-wide overlap between the door and main body panel allows the installer to make any adjustments during the layout process and still allow the overlap to be removed. Tiling the panels so they fit exactly on the doors means the overlap between the panels gets cut off, which ensures a seamless look and speeds up the install. Hiding the overlap between the two horizontal panels in the deep recess areas creates a "seamless" look, and placing the Mutoh above the break makes it easier to register the panels.
