Phil Heck: We have packages targeted for specific types of shops. Our basic pack- age, for example, would be enough equip- ment to make a patch panel for rust repair. That package includes a throatless hand shear for cutting the metal; a shrinker/ stretcher for forming the metal; and a sheet metal brake to bend it. Those three items will get you into the business of making a patch panel for rust repair, without spend- ing a ton of money. Another useful piece of equipment is a bead roller. We also have new CNC equip- ment in-house that enables us to create custom beading dies for duplicating pan- els that are not available by just opening a catalog and buying one. Most of those panels were originally stamped on a punch press at the factory. Co.) tion and it would be—and look—correct because they're all one-off designs; but if you're restoring a car, you've got a goal of what that part should look like exactly as it came out of the factory. These tools help make that possible. PHB: Has Woodward introduced any new equipment recently? Heck: One of our newest items is a forged steel bench vise made by Heuer in Germany. We're an exclusive distributor for all of North America. We also offer a new bead rolling machine with a 43-inch throat depth. You can run a bead down the center of a school bus now. PHB: Describe some examples of how your equipment is used in a hotrod/ restoration shop. How does it benefit the shop? Heck: If you're doing custom restora- tion, you're stuck in a corner; you're either going to pay someone to fabricate the part, or else you'll have to do it yourself. And some parts are really expensive. We had a customer visit who was work- ing on a 1950s Jaguar, with those great big, round fenders, and he wanted to make a fender.
